Season 2011 draws to a close today and it has been an interesting few months to say the least. Being an old ball player I used to come to the park and play, have a few drinks in the 'Pig Pen' and go home. Being a member of the board team shows me Downey Park in a whole new light!
The board do so much work behind the scenes (until now I had no idea how much) so I must thank all of them for their tireless efforts. Their efforts ensure you play at the best softball facilities in Queensland. So thank you Tyson, Tanya, Alana, Anne, Kylie, Mick, Shane and last but certainly not least, our very own human machine Dave:) AND thank you to Karen and Peter and the band of troopers, for keeping the canteen and BBQ running so smoothly.
A special thanks to Sue Sanders - our former Secretary. Sue has moved on and it would be remiss of me not to say thank you to Sue, and to her husband Phil, for the work they have done at Downey over the last few years! So Sue and Phil, thank you! I wish you all the best for the future.
With that said, welcome to Tanya Neish as our Secretary for the remainder of the 2011/12 season. Tanya was on our committee but has now stepped up to fill in as BSA Secretary - I know she will do a great job!
So far we have hosted the U17 State Titles and Round 2 of the Gillies Shield - both were resounding successes. We have had the standard Summer rains - ruling out quite a few days. The Fixtures and Grading committee (Jenny, Alana, Anne and Tanya) have done an amazing job in rescheduling these rained out games, but also in accommodating the numerous club requests.
We have some exciting things to look forward to in the New Year too!
Yellow Socks Softball Challenge, as mentioned in my Welcome post, is back! Book it in softball and Broncos lovers - 11th February at 12pm. 5 Broncos superstars, at time of writing this, are confirmed. Come along to see who they are and who will join them. Our softballing stars will be advertised soon - check out our BSA Facebook Page - you can keep up to date by 'attending' the Event.
In February we are holding a Player's Forum - Senior and Junior. We will be sending out a questionnaire that we encourage you complete. This questionnaire will allow us to set an agenda at the Player's Forum, where you, the players, will be able to have your say - this forum is a think tank, a solution forum - so we ask you come armed with your ideas - it's your game - what can we do to make your next season with us better?
In closing, I wish you all MERRY CHRISTMAS! Enjoy the break, the time with family and friends and stay safe. I look forward to seeing you in 2012!
